039-馬偕的詩-最後的住家
這是馬偕醫師（Dr. George Leslie Mackay）（1844-1901）的詩，好幾年前在一個音樂會中知道的，馬偕醫師曾經向上帝宣誓，希望能讓他留在福爾摩沙：“Once again I promise you, though it means suffering unto death, I wish to spend my life here, in this place I have chosen, to be used of you. May God help me”（我再一次與你立誓，就是痛苦至死，我一生也要在此地——我所選擇的地方，被你差用，願上帝幫助我） 在他的晚年, 他還寫下這首詩：My Final Resting Place，然後我以前竟然大膽的嘗試翻譯成義大利文（又一反省與驚訝！） How dear is Formosa to my heart! On that island the best of my years have been spent. How dear is Formosa to my heart! A lifetime of joy is centered here. I love to look up to its lofty peaks, down into its yawning chasms, and away out on its surging seas. How willing I am to gaze upon these forever! My heart's ties to Taiwan cannot be severed! To that island I devote my life. My heart's ties to Taiwan cannot be severed! There I find my joy.
